The time, from being diagnosed with psoriasis, till the remaining life of that individual the person goes through phases of different kinds of emotions ranging from anger, frustration, shame, indignation and in severe cases depression.
What is PSORIASIS?
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory form of dermatitis usually lasting for many years with stages of remissions and relapses. It is a non-contagious skin condition that produces red, dry plaques of thickened skin. The dry flakes and skin scales are resulting from the rapid proliferation of skin cells that is triggered by abnormal lymphocytes from the blood.
Psoriasis is known to be influenced by seasons. The most common seasonal psoriasis type is Winter Psoriasis – it gets worse in the winter and gets better in the summer.
Some people have such mild psoriasis (small, faint dry skin patches) that they may not even suspect that they have a medical skin condition. Others have very severe psoriasis where virtually their entire body is fully covered with thick, red, scaly skin.
Psoriasis typically looks like red or pink areas of thickened, raised, and dry skin. It classically affects areas over the elbows, knees, and scalp. Essentially any body area may be involved though it tends to be more common in areas of trauma, repeat rubbing, use, or abrasions.
Seen worldwide, in all races, and both sexes Psoriasis occurs in people of any age, from babies to
seniors, most commonly patients being first diagnosed in their early adult years.
Patients with more severe psoriasis go through social embarrassment, job stress, emotional distress,
and other personal issues because of the appearance of their skin. It causes numerous everyday inconveniences for the sufferer. The worst part is being forced to deal with cosmetic “imperfections” that limit a person’s freedom of actions and social behaviour, as well as their selection of hairstyle, clothing, and so on.
People with psoriasis frequently suffer from inferiority complexes. Being troubled by their appearance,
they become reserved and shy: they avoid public places and wear maximally closed clothing. Even in hot weather, they may wear hats, long sleeve shirts, and pants.
